Hawkhurst is a large and growing village. There is an active social scene in the village, with a wide range of groups and sports activities to cater for most tastes and ages, but several groups are not able to expand or hold larger meetings because there is an under-provision of halls in Hawkhurst. Changing room facilities for the popular junior and senior football teams are well below Football Association standards. The present village hall is too small, beyond economic repair and has a tiny car park. Leisure and recreation opportunities are being held back by the lack of a suitable meeting place.
A new community and sports centre is planned, to be located on the King George V Playing Field beside the football pitches, the multi-use games area and a new children’s playground. Hawkhurst Parish Council is working with the Hawkhurst Community Trust 2018 (HCT 2018) to make this exciting project a reality.
HCT 2018 was set up as an independent charity to improve community facilities in Hawkhurst. The new community and sports centre is currently its main focus. Once the centre is complete HCT 2018 will be responsible for its day to day running.
