Margaret Skeet 3

Margaret was born and educated in Hawkhurst. After attending the Technical School in Tonbridge she moved to Hertfordshire to train as a Nursery Nurse. Around 1950, after the death of her mother, she came back to live in Hawkhurst and married a local man. For two decades, until 2009, Margaret served on the Parish Council. She currently acts as Secretary of the Transport Accessibility Group which regularly meets with local Parish Councils and bus companies regarding public transport services which operate in this area.

In her lifetime, Margaret has seen many changes in the village. Growing up in Hawkhurst as a little girl, the village then was composed of different entities, each with their own distinct centre and shops. Now everything, including the school, has moved into the centre of the village – which has its pros and cons.

Margaret feels the village today has a lot to offer – there are many groups and activities to attend and you don’t need to be lonely living here. Traffic in the village can be a problem, but public transport links are good to get you to many interesting places nearby. Margaret joined the Trust in the hope that the community centre which has been talked about for a long time will now become a reality and offer up-to-date facilities for a great number of village activities.
